Cortet is a part of CEL, a company that develops commercial-grade wireless lighting products and control systems. Cortet creates comprehensive, white-labeled hardware and software solutions that allow OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to launch their own IoT (Internet of Things) product lines for the building automation industry.

In 2017 CEL embarked on an innovative approach to marketing its Cortet by CEL business. CEL needed to bring the Cortet brand forward in the marketplace as less of a behind-the-scenes brand. This strategy called for a radically updated and modernized website.

Cortet engaged Carbon8 to bring their online presence into modern times by creating a sleek, contemporary design and reorganization of their products and services.

A Diverse Audience

Cortet's challenge laid in their previous website's seven-page-deep site navigation and the unclear distinction between Lighting Controls Solutions and the Cortet IoT Control Platform. Through user stories, Carbon8 established that Cortet users visit the site for two reasons: to find smart lighting solutions and/or to pick out the best IoT hardware products available.

Cortet unveiled their new website at the annual Lightfair conference. Subsequently, Cortet has been able to make updates in their intuitive ASP.NET CMS (Content Management System), Sitefinity. Carbon8 implemented content optimization to improve search ranking and since launch organic search traffic has increased 8%.

Our Strategy

Carbon8 conducted interviews with Cortet's leadership team from product marketing managers to engineers and designers. We performed expansive SEO research and recommended a selection of keywords for website optimization to meet Cortet's KPIs. We designed and developed a website with a layout and navigation that enabled users to quickly identify and find products and services, relevant to their exact needs.

Before and After

The result is a beautiful new website that supports an innovative approach and brings the Cortet brand forward. Each page was optimized for lead generation with specific calls to action created for customized site engagement. Website visitors can contact a tech expert by phone, fill out a form or download featured resources. The resource library was created for technical IoT Hardware users to return to the site and view videos, download application notes, brochures, datasheets, user guides and quality assurance documents.
