Online Community for Truck Drivers

Team Run Smart is a trucking resource sponsored by Freightliner. It was created in 2012 for all truck drivers no matter if they drive a Freightliner or not. All drivers face increasing industry pressures, from keeping operating costs low to staying healthy on the road.

Team Run Smart is an online community for owner-operator truck drivers, company drivers, and anyone else in the trucking industry. The purpose of the website redesign was to implement a mobile first website that will help deliver the latest in content marketing and website usability for the members. The largest challenge was ensuring that 47,000+ members did not lose access to content or encounter any downtime during the launch of the site.

About Team Run Smart

Team Run Smart circulates advice from fellow truckers and dedicated Freightliner industry pros that can be used to overcome common industry challenges. Rather than being just another social network trying to compete for a driver's time, Team Run Smart offers the tools that drive an owner-operator's business forward. Team Run Smart has created a community that caters to drivers regardless of where they are in the driver lifecycle. No matter if they are a student driver or a small fleet owner, Team Run Smart helps them become better small business owners, and intimately knowledgeable with the Freightliner brand.

Our Strategy

We started with UX audit of the current site and usability testing with users in the target audience. Based upon the results, Carbon8 was able to restructure the content and flow of the site to make it easier for users to identify appropriate content areas. In addition to reskinning the desktop website, Carbon8 also created a mobile version. Since truckers are on the road for long periods of time, we wanted to ensure they had a seamless mobile experience.

Before and After

The finished site was a completely new look and feel for the front-end of the Team Run Smart website, while preserving the original back-end functionality. The launch included a new mobile version of the site, optimized for usability on phones, allowing truckers to get access to pertinent information while on road. From a programming standpoint, our development team was able to drastically improve page speed and load time, which also improved user experience.
